Images: the #1 thing consumers look for when shopping online

If you own or run an online store, chances are you have done plenty of research on what interests consumers, what they like, and what drives them to make a purchase. If you haven’t, I’ll save you a lot of research and reading: The most overwhelming answer to “What do consumers look for when they are shopping online?” is good product imaging. Just about any article you find will tell you the same thing: the majority of customers still feel images they’re seeing online don’t make the cut.

Over half of the consumers said the biggest drawback of online shopping is not being able to touch, feel, and try a product (v12data.com). The next best thing to being able to interact with a product in person is being able to interact with it online. Another major reason that interactive product imagery is so vital.

Product photos and videos allow customers to get as close to “interacting” with your product as is possible without seeing and touching it in person.

If you display crisp, clear, professional product imaging, you are giving your customers a better view of what they will receive. By providing great imaging, you will increase your overall sales, decrease overall returns, and maximize customer satisfaction. This comes with a catch though: Bad product imaging can turn customers off from your products and brand as a whole. Rather than snapping a few quick shots with your phone or a cheap second-hand camera, invest in professional imaging. We promise, it is well worth the investment.
